RESERVOIR RELEASES TO EXPAND TO UPPER BRAZOS BASIN | |
| The Brazos River Authority will begin extended spillway gate releases from the DeCordova Bend Dam at Lake Granbury over the next several weeks in an effort to continue to meet water supply demands throughout the Brazos River basin. The Brazos Basin System is currently at 70 percent of supply capacity. For the past several months, the Authority has released water supply from the 11 reservoirs within the System with the majority of releases coming from reservoirs in the lower portions of the basin. Many of these reservoirs are now at or below 50 percent of their storage capacity. Lake Granbury is currently at 83 percent of supply capacity while Possum Kingdom Lake is at 79 percent. Changes in spillway releases from Lake Granbury began on August 18 when the regular weekly 24-hour, one gate release was extended to 48 hours. The 48-hour releases will continue through the end of August. On September 1, the Authority will begin a continuous one-gate release from Lake Granbury that will extend throughout the month. Expanded weekly releases from Possum Kingdom Lake will begin on September 7. Lakefront property owners with boat docks that are currently functional should be aware of declining lake levels in their area and, if desired, make plans to remove their crafts by trailer until water levels begin to rise. The Authority encourages lakeside property owners to take this opportunity to make repairs to docks and seawalls. Dredging permits are also available.
